Menstrie Community Council
Comment from the Chair
Despite all that mother nature has thrown at us this summer, the village is looking better than it has for some time. Our new hanging basket 'trees', new flower tubs on the Main Street, landscaping at the Western edge of the Village have all contributed. My thanks to Kathy Knox from Clackmannanshire Council for listening to and acting upon our ramblings.
Thanks and praise must also go to everyone throughout the village who has made an effort to bring colour and vibrancy to Menstrie with their gardens and containers. This time next year I look forward to publishing the winning names in our horticultural competition which we hope to organise as part of the Village Fete week.
As the Community Council meet again after the summer recess the issues that are current within Menstrie will be raised again with our elected members and Council officials: A pedestrian Crossing at the Western end of the village, Park Road, development of Community facilities, and very currently the new wind turbine at the Primary school. This new development seems to have taken everyone by surprise but we are in consultation with Council to find answers to the many questions raised. We also hope to gain an allocation of funding for Community Art. This project could enhance the village enormously and whilst we have some ideas for projects we would welcome suggestions from yourselves. Please e-mail me. The art can take form in many guises: Sculpture, light, history, but should reflect some aspect of Menstrie life.
Plans for next year's Summer Fete are now underway and I would ask you to support this venture, be it attending fund-raisers, joining our subcommittee or providing ideas for what you would like to see happening. I must stress that whilst this project is being organised under the auspices of the Community Council, it is entirely dependant on community involvement. Please get involved.
Two further projects are planned, a Menstrie Calendar and village web-site, both of these do require technical expertise and funding. Can anyone assist, we would welcome pictures of the village taken throughout the seasons. Once again please e-mail me if you can help.
Outwith Menstrie Matters we will be publishing notices of events happening within the village. Please take time to read, digest and support.
There are now three vacancies on Menstrie Community Council. Anyone interested in being co-opted on until the next round of elections should come, please, to our next meeting on September 11th. We would be delighted to see you.
The Community Council meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month apart from July and August. Members of the community are always welcome to attend. Much of the discussion at the forthcoming meetings will be about the planned improvements to the Dumyat Centre.
The Community Council is pleased to note that, at long last, all the pavements in Middleton Kerse have been repaired and are no longer a threat to life and limb!
