Menstrie Community Council

Message from the Community Council Chairman, September 2008

Despite the summer recess, the work of the Community Council carries on.

Everyone seems to be enjoying the new facilities in the children's park albeit the timing of the work could have been better planned. However Clackmannanshire Council did pull out all the stops to get the job done quickly. We are hoping to have the fence surrounding the park renewed or at least a coat of paint which will help to improve the look of our village.

As you may have seen in the press, there are vacancies on the Community Council. This is your chance to get involved with shaping the future of our village, socially and in its structure and improvement. The level of involvement is up to you. There are a number of projects in hand and proposed which require input and assistance. Feel free to e-mail me should you wish further information on any of these, or indeed any aspect of being a Community Councillor.

I would stress, however, that it can be hugely satisfying when a project reaches completion and we get positive comments. The opposite is also true but it allows us to look carefully at the impact any project may have on village life.

Our Village Fete appears to have been one project that everyone enjoyed, with many positive comments and suggestions coming through. We hope to expand on the events next year but, as always, we rely on the people of Menstrie to support and assist in the organisation, planning and taking part in all that happens.

Our new flagpoles are now in place in preparation for the installation of the new artwork by Andy Scott in the Autumn. There are other works planned to change the look of Midtown gardens which will improve the central area of the village. As we get further into the details of this we will let you know what to expect.

The plans for the new extension to the Dumyat Centre are forging ahead with work expected to start in the not too distant future.

As always, get involved, keep in touch and enjoy your village.

Les Sharp
Chairman, Community Council
