Menstrie Community Council

Message from the Community Council Chairman, March 2009

With all the festivities past for another year, we start to look forward to spring and another year of activities in the village calendar.

Our first community event takes place on Sunday 19th April, within the National Spring Clean, Scotland 2009 campaign, when we are organising a cleanup of Menstrie. Last year was a great success with over 30 people turning up to help collect more than 20 bags of rubbish along with various large items from the burn area.

Let's make this year's event even better and bigger. All bags, litterpickers, gloves etc will be provided. All you need is stout footwear or wellies if you fancy cleaning up the burn!

We start at 1.00 pm from the Scout hall and disperse to various litter spots around the village, returning at 3.00 pm to the Scout hall with bags of 'booty'. As a reward for all the hard work we plan to round off the day with a BBQ (venue to be set).

Moving on through the year, we are planning in detail for Menstrie Fete Week and Gala and it is promising to be even better than last year, with more events through the week and a more varied Gala Day. The week will begin on Sunday 7th June ending with the Gala Day and Ceilidh on Saturday June 13th. As always we are desperately seeking volunteers and helpers. If you can assist in any way please e-mail me at: thechair@menstrie.org

As spring gets underway you will start to see the improvements commence in Mid-town gardens. This will result in a superb centre for our village and a lot more usable space for us.

We are also looking for anyone who can assist us in the management of our woods. Again e-mail me if this is of interest.

Enjoy spring in the village and woodlands and as always ... Get Involved.

Les Sharp, Chairman
Menstrie Community Council
