Menstrie Community Council
Message from the Community Council Chairman, March 2010
Make a Difference
No matter how small a contribution to community and village life you can make, it can Make a Difference.
We recently received a donation of £150.00 from the regulars in the bar at The Burnside Inn, not from any specific fundraising event but from a simple bottle on the bar labelled 'Change for the Future'; just small change deposited over the last 10 months.
How can you Make a Difference? The obvious answer would be to join the Community Council, we currently have two vacancies. Less obvious, join in with one of our events.
On March 28th we are clearing scrub, weeds etc from the Burn, in preparation for the Duck Race the following week. Meet us on the day at 1.0Opm with gloves, wellies and secateurs.
The following Sunday, 4th April we have our Easter activities, Egg Painting, Easter Egg Hunt, BBQ and Duck Race all taking place alongside Foxy Boy in the gardens, come along, bring the kids, give us a hand.
Get involved with Gala Week. It is for all ages and abilities and there is all sorts going on, I won't do the programme here as it is highlighted elsewhere, but it is for all age groups.
If you need to get fit or simply enjoy being outdoors, our Woodlands Working Team are always looking for willing hands. There is work there for everyone: bat boxes to tree felling, ditch clearing to path making. Too many jobs, not enough hands and, best of all, we don't charge a membership fee like most gyms.
Just fancy an afternoon in the fresh air? Our Village Clean-up on Sunday 25th April gives everyone a chance to do something. Check us out at springclean.keepscotlandtidy.org; we're on the map. Just bring yourselves along at 1.0Opm at the Scout Hall with stout shoes, gloves, friends (and of course children) and make a difference for just two hours.
Hopefully by the time you read this, work will have commenced on the new extension to the Dumyat Centre with a promised opening date of 4th June; just in time for Gala Week.
On a slightly different tack, we look forward again to welcoming our friends from Nova Scotia in September. Try and get involved - we had such a great day last year, if you think you can offer something, special skill or talents, let me know.
Speaking of talent, we are trying to set up an afternoon of Music in the Park to launch our Gala Week, if you can play an instrument or sing or are part of a band, let us know. We would love to hear from you. After all it is your Village, your Community, and you could so easily Make A Difference.
