Message from the Chair, November 2010

Woodland Clean-up

My thanks to all who responded to our call for help in giving the woodland path a clean-up. We totally cleared the path of leaves and removed a couple of trees that were becoming dangerous to adjacent properties. We could have achieved far more with a little more help. Those of you who enjoy the woodlands, be it walking, cycling, taking the dogs out, or taking the children for a walk, could maybe consider joining in with us for the next event.

There is plenty for the kids to do, absolutely loads for the dads and mums. It not only keeps our woodland tidy and more pleasurable to use, but is great exercise in the fresh air. Simply picking up litter and clearing the leaves, onto the more serious work of tree clearing and thinning; all the jobs that are on-going in the woods.

Even providing a lunch of soup and rolls (the sausages done on the BBQ were particularly good) is helping make our woods a better place to be. Keep your eyes on the Community Council notice board for future events.

Dumyat Centre

Do you have any thoughts on the kind of event or regular use we could organise in the Dumyat Centre? There is a community space which is very reasonable to hire for childrens parties, coffee mornings, lunch clubs. These things are all 'do-able' in the centre now. We would love to hear your ideas. Email me at chair@menstrie.org with any ideas.

Wind turbine application

It would appear that the planning application for the proposed wind turbine has been withdrawn. Whilst most of us are all for renewable energy, this was to be a huge impact on the landscape.
