Message from the Chair, May 2014

As the Spring and Summer seasons are upon us once more, I hope we shall see some colourful floral displays in and around Menstrie.

Recently, the area approaching the roundabout at the west end of the village was raked over and a wide variety of native wild flower seeds were sown. Several flower containers will soon be attached to the railings on the bridge at Midtown and the hanging baskets will be re-instated on the posts at the front of the Gardens. Information boards are in place at certain areas of the village and are providing a fascinating insight into what Menstrie was like all these years ago.

An announcement has recently been made in that the former Burnside Inn is going to be redeveloped. Unfortunately the last couple of years has seen the building fall into disrepair and become an eyesore so this is a very welcome step forward.

Duck race 2014 |d|

In the lead up to our summer activities, the recent Duck Race was a great success. Thanks to everyone who came along in the sunshine and especially to those who helped in preparing the area and assisting during the afternoon.

The Fete week and Gala Day preparation are well underway. A full programme of events is in the process of being circulated. Let us hope that the weather will be as good as it was last year.

This coming month of June is going to be quite eventful in Menstrie. Fete Week commences on Saturday 7th June and finishes with the Gala Day on Saturday June 14th.

The Ochil Landscape Partnership is holding an Open Day in our Public Park on Saturday 21st June. Menstrie has again been give the venue, so please come along and enjoy the exhibits and various attractions which will be on display.

On Wednesday 25th of June, the Commonwealth Games Baton Relay will be passing through Menstrie. Further details regarding times and routes are on page 4 of the May edition of Menstrie Matters.

So, with all this going on, I am sure that Menstrie will be at its best in June and that we all enjoy the various events during the month.
