Menstrie Community Council
Message from the Chair, in Mentrie Matters, August 2015
Once again this year's Fete Week Gala Day were very successful. 'Music in the Gardens' started off the week's events and by all accounts the music and the other activities were enjoyed by everyone. It has been suggested that maybe for next year's music event, in addition to the 'official' musicians, there could be two or three items showcasing the musical talent of our local residents, young or old. This is just an idea that could be taken forward for next year.
The Gala Day was really very well attended, considering a bit of chilly weather hit us on the day. A big thanks goes to all who helped to set up the tents, stalls and other fittings during the morning and clearing up at the end of the afternoon. The several new attractions this year proved very popular, showing we can still further improve our Gala Days with different ideas and maintain a good mixture for everyone.
Preparations for next year's events will probably start again in October. As always, any groups or individuals are welcome to come along with their ideas and enthusiasm. It's well known that Menstrie stages the best Gala Days in the area - Let's continue with that preparation.
At this time the Community Garden is in full flourish. The flowers and vegetable beds are coming along quite nicely and, with the hanging baskets having been recently erected on the surrounding railings, the garden is looking very nice indeed. Please pay a visit to the garden. It is open all day and is there for everyone to enjoy. If you have any plants or vegetables that need 'brought on' please feel free to use the Poly Tunnel. That's what it is there for.
There are no Community Council meetings in July and August. The next meeting will take place on the second Tuesday of September (08/09/15) in the Dumyat Centre at 7.00pm. As ever, everyone is welcome to attend with any comments or suggestions.
