Menstrie Community Council

Message from the Chair, in Mentrie Matters, November 2015

Once again, as the Festive Season approaches we can all look forward to our annual Christmas Carol Singing in Menstrie Parish Church Hall on the evening of Thursday 17th December at 7 pm. As during previous years, this has always been an agreeable evening and has become an important part of the Christmas season in the village.

Arrangements are being made for the collection of the village Christmas Tree. It is intended to have the tree in place on Saturday 5th of December. Able bodied volunteers will be rounded up for that morning.

During the past year, I am sure you will agree, the social events which took place in the village were very successful. The Easter Duck Race is as popular as ever. The Fete Week, starting with 'Music in the Gardens', and the subsequent events were enjoyed by all who attended. The Gala Day was rated as a great success. Events such as we hold here in Menstrie form an important part of any community and it is thanks to everyone who attends and makes everything worthwhile.

A programme for next year's Fete Week and Gala Day has been drawn up with additional recruits to our Gala Committee. Some fresh new ideas were discussed and this is the way forward to ensure that the Gala events continue. Further updates will he announced in due course.

At this time of year the Community Garden is now looking a bit bare with the beds and tubs now cleared out. It means that it will be Springtime again before we see the daffodils and tulips coming out. However during this past summer, the garden has certainly been appreciated by everyone who has paid a visit.

As mentioned before, the Community Council is open to everyone who may have a point of view to make or even wishing to become more involved in the local Community. The meetings are held in the Dumyat Centre on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7.00 pm.

As this will be the last issue of Menstrie Matters for 20l5 may I, on behalf of Menstrie Community Council, wish everyone the compliments of the Season and a successful and prosperous New Year.

Stan Paterson, Chairman
