County Councillor

From Les Sharp to Menstrie Community Council, April 2013

The Housing Business Plan is now on-line for consultation: I would recommend anyone interested to go through the questionnaire. This plan sets out the way the Council both sets rent levels and also uses the funds that rents bring in. It involves such issues as bathroom replacement, kitchen upgrades, repairs etc.

Supported Owners Service (SOS)

There is a new scheme in place which replaces the defunct Care and Repair service. This is called the Supported Owners Service and allows older owner-occupiers and tenants of private landlords to improve and adapt their homes. In essence this provides for handyman service, advice, signposting to trusted traders and, importantly, adaptations to allow older people to live in their own homes for longer.

Empty Homes

A new initiative aims to bring (largely) empty flats back into social rental. This may be where the property is empty and has an absentee landlord, or where someone has a property that they wish to let but it does not meet current standards. A grant has been awarded to Clacks Council for £75k which will allow 10 homes to be refurbished.

Full details of all the above can be found on Clacksweb.

Menstrie Place

I have received a number of complaints regarding parking in this area and the congestion it causes. Therefore I have arranged to meet an officer from Roads Dept. to see what can be done to alleviate the problem. I will report on the outcome.

Dog Fouling

I have received a number of requests to address this issue. There is to be a new campaign to attempt to educate and then penalise (if caught) owners who flaunt the regulations. It is still in planning stage and I will provide more detail at the next meeting.

I received a complaint regarding litter along the path from the school to Hazel Avenue, asking for litter bins to be put in place. I have passed the complaint to Waste services and await their response. Without predetermining the outcome I would add that this is technically private property [though] bins can be placed on the path itself.

Ochil Landscape Partnership (OLP)

The organisers have asked for as many people as possible to assist on Saturday 15th June in the park where the Annual Event is taking place. It is a full programme and they are looking for general assistance.

As always I can be contacted at my surgery each Tuesday between 6-7pm in the Dumyat Centre, by e-mail, by phone 01259 452286 or by personal contact.
