From Jim Stalker to Menstrie Matters, February 2014
I am delighted to make this contribution to Menstrie Matters which serves the community so well. For those of you who don't know me I was born and brought up in Tillicoultry, attended Tillicoultry Primary School and Alva Academy. At Alva Academy I developed an interest in drama and performed in several school shows. I was very much into sport, mainly football, golf and rugby.
On leaving Alva I studied at Edinburgh University for 4 years gaining an Honours Degree in Geography and Economics then trained as a Geography and Economics teacher at Moray House College of Education. Returning to the Wee County, my first teaching job was in Alloa Academy where I enjoyed 8 years before moving to Balfron High School as Principal Teacher of Geography.
In 1989 my wife Naidha and I set up Forefront Children's Theatre which over twenty-five years has provided training in dance and musical theatre to thousands of local youngsters and provided entertainment to local audiences through pantos, musicals and cabarets.
I first got involved in politics delivering leaflets in Tillicoultry for my father who was a councillor in the town. I was delighted to be selected as a labour candidate for the 2012 Election and was elected to serve the people of Menstrie and Tullibody.
Since being elected to Clackmannanshire Council I have work hard for the people of Menstrie and Tullibody. I have regularly attended Community Council meetings and have held regular surgeries in both Tullibody and Menstrie. At present we are awaiting budget decisions for the 2014 - 2015 budget and as ever, along with my colleagues will scrutinise all budget proposals and comment, always with the best interest of all Clackmannanshire residents in mind.
My Menstrie Surgery is on the second Monday of every month from 6pm until 7pm in the Dumyat Centre. I would be pleased to see more people coming to seek help, email or phone.
