County Councillor

From Les Sharp to Menstrie Matters, February 2014

As most will probably know by now, the developers have withdrawn their application for the planned houses to the rear of Middleton. They gave no specific reason but finance seems to have had an influence. Any new proposal will require a full planning application to be submitted.

We should soon see some movement in the one way system being put in place around Menstrie Place. This should make the area a great deal safer for drivers and pedestrians, especially for our children who use this as a route to school.

The footpath between Menstrie and Blairlogie has been upgraded, the final part of this will be to plant wildflower seeds alongside the new path. This should give us an extremely attractive entrance to the village. There will shortly be new information boards going up around the village as part of the OLP project, these will show how life in Menstrie used to be and how the village has changed over the years using old photos and pictures to highlight the changes.

If you are aware of anyone suffering financially through Welfare Reform or the 'Bedroom Tax' please urge them to contact the Council's Money Advice team (telephone 45000 - ed.) as they will be able to assist in some way, I would hate to think we have people struggling because of this tax when there is lots of help available.

As you will know, we are approaching the time of years when events start up again, please keep your eyes on the notice board and give us a hand; an hour or so of time makes a huge difference to the event organisation.

The new Community Garden will gain momentum shortly with planting up of seeds and plants to enhance the village. If you have an interest in gardening or can help, please contact myself or any of our Community Councillors. Everyone is welcome, even those who decided to vandalise the poly-tunnel, come along and get involved, you might learn something.

You will see elsewhere in the latest issue of 'Menstriere Matters' that the Primary School are trying to fundraise for a new sports facility. Please support them; it is something we have been trying to achieve for a number of years and wish them well in their efforts.

As always I can be contacted at my surgery each Tuesday between 6-7pm in the Dumyat Centre, by e-mail, by phone 01259 452286 or by personal contact.
