Dr James Hay

The Chairman asked visitor, Dr Jim Hay, to give an update on the Tennis Club.

Dr Hay stated that he had approached Kerry Group to discuss a long term lease or buy-out of the tennis courts. He said there is demand in the village for, in particular, childrens' tennis coaching.

PC Goldie stated that Dr Hay could approach the Police who have access to funds for this kind of project.

Menstrie Tennis Club is to be officially launched by Judy Murray.

2. Approval of minutes of 8th March 2011

3. Matters arising from minutes of 8th March 2011

Jim Gardiner stated he had contacted the Council regarding the slabs for the shed and was currently awaiting a reply. Les Sharp added that his back garden was no longer a safe storage area as youths had burned his wood stock.

A discussion ensued on a suitable storage area. Beth said she would contact the Electricity Board to enquire about storage on their fenced land at the back of her house.

4. Treasurer's report

The Treasurer was not present to submit a report.

5. Community Police Officers' report

PC Goldie spoke to his report which was circulated to all members present. It was suggested that in the future a shorter version of the Police Report be published in Menstrie Matters.

6. Councillors' reports

Neither councillor was present.

7. Correspondence

Correspondence was read and actioned.

8. Menstrie Matters

Linda stated that the Gala issue of the newsletter, including the programme for the Fete week, was due in the last week of May. The next regular newsletter is due in July.

Linda suggested that we have a wine and cheese evening to thank all the volunteers who circulate the newsletter.

9. Community woodland

Les stated he will organise a clean up in the near future.


10. Fete and Gala 2011: Report

Andrew Noon will report back to the Gala meeting next week

11. Future Events: Duck Race

Les and Linda will bring their barbecues for use at the Duck Race on Easter Sunday. It was decided the proceedings will begin at 2pm on Sunday and Les asked for volunteers to set everything up from 10.30 that morning. The Duck Race will be preceded by egg painting, egg rolling, Easter egg hunt and barbecue. Easter bunnies, chicks, felt tip pens, eggs and Easter eggs (as prizes) have to be purchased. It was decided there would be three duck races with 50 ducks per race.

It was agreed that if the weather was poor the event would be cancelled.

12. Any other business

Dumyat Centre:
Les related that he had attended a meeting with the head of Facilities Management at Clacks Council. He said there was no news on the future of the Dumyat Centre.

Care and repair:
Beth said she had used the Clackmannanshire Care and Repair service and had been impressed.

Glenochil Nursery :
Linda voiced her concern over land at Glenochil Nursery being sold for housing in what was possibly a green belt area.
