MENSTRIE WOOD

Late Autumn 2007

I hope those of you who have become regular walkers in the wood were able to have a few walks in the wood over the past four of five weeks. Brilliant colours of gold, red and yellow everywhere you looked and on those days when the sun penetrated the canopy the wood was just a magical place to be; especially the riot of colours produced by the eight Beech trees by the wall to the north of the wood.

Now of course after the recent cold spell and high winds almost all of the leaves have fallen covering the wood floor in deep carpet of leaves - great fun kicking your way through the leaves now covering your favourite paths. Now is the time to stray off the paths and search for the many species of fungi to be found on old fallen timbers and an opportunity to catch site of the wood's rarer species of wildlife.
