Menstrie Gala Committee
MENSTRIE FETE WEEK 6th to 12th JUNE 2010
I would like to thank everyone who supported us at all the events during the Fete week. Check the photos at his link.
It was unfortunate that, after a long spell of dry weather, it rained a bit at our Music in the Gardens event. I am sure, though, that everyone who attended enjoyed the music on offer. The highlight of the day was an excellent performance by the Menstrie Primary School Choir.
Hopefully next year (and I am sure we will do the same again) the weather will be kinder to us and we can bring our picnics to the Gardens.
Thanks go mainly to Les Sharp for organising and setting up this event.
The Fashion Show, which was held in the Dumyat Centre main hall on Tuesday evening, was a huge success. Alison Stupart has to be thanked for getting most of the models and taking on the organisation of the event. M&Co supplied the clothes. Because of the success of this event we intend to have a winter show as well.
The Art, Craft and Photography exhibition on Wednesday, again, was a great day and very well attended. Now that we have our own space we would hope to run the event for 2 days next year. It is amazing just how much talent we have in our small village but I am sure there are more people out there with special talents. We are hoping that our very own local artist, Owen Conlon, will be selling his paintings next year; they were very much admired this year.
On the same night the Children's Football tournament was, as always, a huge success and we must thank Steven Rennie and friends for doing such a great job of organising this event for us.
Thursday evening saw our very popular and ever growing Village Pet Show. Stan Paterson does a wonderful job organising and keeping it all under control. The event was judged again this year by a representative from the SSPCA There were 3 three sections: large dog, small dog and all other animals. I think everyone had a great time.
Also on Thursday evening there was a fantastic talk and slideshow on Menstrie 80 to 100 years ago given by Tom Mack who has lived in Menstrie all his life. Everyone thought it was extremely interesting and informative.
For Friday night Stan Paterson asked his friend Colin Smail to organise a Car Treasure Hunt. Everyone had a great time following the clues around the county. It was a beautiful night so we saw the east end of the county at its very best. We all ended at the Burnside Inn where a very nice supper was served. There was also a 'Kids Disco' held in the school that evening.
I would like to again say "Thank you" to everyone who attended, participated and helped out in any way.
