Menstrie Gala Committee

November 2010

Message from the recently appointed Chairperson of the gala committee

First of all I would like to thank Les Sharp for all of his effort and time that he has put in to make the Menstrie Gala and Fete week the success that it has been. I am delighted to be appointed as Chairperson of the Menstrie Gala Committee and we have set our sights on achieving the same level of success as in the past.

Draft programme

Work has already started on the arrangements for next year's Gala and Fete week which starts on Saturday 4 June 2011 with the Ceilidh and finishes off on Saturday 11th June 2011 with the Gala. We are in the process of organising the events for the fete week and we are hoping to be able to match the successful events of last year such as the art exhibition, drama classes, pet show and treasure hunt. Full details of the events will be published as they are confirmed.

Invitation to join the Committee

The Gala and Fete week is organised for the whole community and we would like to get as many people as possible involved, whether that is by helping out or by attending and supporting the events. If anyone would like to assist with the Gala and Fete week or would like to introduce any new stalls or events please bring your ideas forward to any member of the committee.

Message from the Coordinator of the gala committee

I will be co-ordinating next year's Fete Week. We already have the bones of a good, tried and tested programme but we do have spaces to be filled as we want to make it a full and busy week. Last year we had a excellent talk on Menstrie 80 to 100 years ago. We would like to do a similar thing again. So I am asking whether anyone out there would give a talk on something that would be interesting to the rest of the community. Local history would be good but if anyone has been somewhere different and can give a talk on the subject, that would be great.

We are also looking for someone who would be willing to lead a drama workshop for primary school age group.

Please contact me in the usual way.

Gala Fund Bingo Teas

These Bingo Teas will be held at 7.30pm on the last Wednesday of each month in the Community Room of the Dumyat Centre.

Please watch local press for any changes Contributions for prizes and raffles would be very appreciated from anyone in the community: even people who can't manage to come along. These are good fund-raisers and deserve better support from the village.
