Menstrie Fete and Gala Committee

Message from the Chair

I would like to thank everyone who attended all the events throughout the Gala and Fete Week and especially to everybody who helped with the organisation and setting up of the events. I hope everyone enjoyed the week and are all looking forward to next year. Let's just hope it stays dry for the Gala Day and Football tournament next time. You can be assured that we learned lessons from the weather, too, and we will include contingency plans next year.

We are always looking for new ideas for each year and if anyone wishes to put forward their thoughts or want to get involved, please get in touch with any member of the committee.

The Fete Coordinator writes ...

I would like to take this opportunity to say "Thank you" to everyone who supported the events throughout the Village Fete Week. Again we feel it was very successful.

We will soon be starting planning next year as everyone has been saying .....next year we will.....!!! Does anyone have a suggestions for what we can do next year? We try to have two presentations or talks within the week, so does anyone have anything to share? Perhaps you've been to the Himalayas, the Arctic, bagged Munros or just got some wonderful pictures and a story you would like to share. Please get in touch with me.

I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge "Thank you" to the young mums of the village. They gave me, and all the events, fantastic support. Most of these families are new to Menstrie and it was great to see how they wanted to get involved.

We are looking for volunteers to help out at next year's village events. We now have a very good Friends of the Gala Group which look after the 'committee' part but what we need are extra helping hands at the events. We would really like a list of people who would be willing to do just ONE JOB. For example, help sell the ducks at the Easter Duck Race, put up the gazebos at the Music in the Gardens, put up and take down the bunting at the Gala. We are well aware that some people do not want to be on committees, that's fine; we've got that covered - JUST ONE JOB! Thats all it would take to keep our events getting bigger and better.

Also, can I remind everyone that through the winter we run a Bingo Tea on the last Wednesday of the month, starting October through till April. These raise a lot of money for the village events. They help pay for the Christmas tree, Santas gifts, all the way through to the Gala itself. We need prizes for the Bingo Teas and the more prizes we are given from the community, the less money has to be used from the profits. Bottles of wine, chocolates, toiletries are all very good and would be gratefully accepted. These can be handed to me, Beth Cook, Ann Aitken, Susan Gray, Caroline Crawford, Christine Kidson, Stan Paterson, Les Sharp, Andrew and Rebecca Noon and of course myself and anyone else associated with the Gala or Community Council.

One last thing from me: I was honoured to be invited to the Queen's Garden Party on Tuesday July 4th. I was asked if I would like to go by Lynne Mack, the Deputy Lieutenant of the County in recognition for the work I do on the Menstrie Matters. I felt I was there to represent all of us and I just say well done Menstrie that you have given me the encouragement to keep doing my bit. We are the envy of a lot of villages.
