Menstrie Fete and Gala Committee

Message from the Chair

Preparation for the Gala and Fete week are well under way for 2012. Fete week will start on Saturday June 2nd with the Ceilidh and, as usual, we will complete the week of events with the Gala Day on Saturday June 9th. Next year's Gala will be our 5th anniversary since they were introduced and we are hoping that we can make this a special week of events marking the occasion. We will give an update of the confirmed events in later Menstrie Matters.

Our meetings are held in the small Community Room in the Dumyat Centre. The next will be January 17th. As always, if anyone wants to be involved, come along or just get in touch with the usual suspects if you have any bright and different ideas.

Chair, Friends of the Gala Committee

The Fete Coordinator writes ...

During next year's Fete Week, as always, we will have our Arts, Craft and Photographic Exhibition. We intend this time to include as many old photos of Menstrie that we can get, so this is an appeal to anyone who can help us. Remember: Nowadays, we don't need to keep your photographs. With your permission we would copy them and get them straight back to you.

Next year is the Queen's Diamond Jubilee so it would be nice to get some photographs of past Gala Days, Sunday school picnics, school sports days, Scouts camping at the Third Glen and school events that have taken place over the last 60 years. Once there were lots of thriving Clubs in the village so there must be some very interesting pictures out there somewhere. There might even be street parties or events marking the Coronation and the Queen's Silver and Golden Jubilees.

So, Menstrie folk, get into these drawers or boxes in the attic and share your memories with us all. Give them to Linda, Les, Caroline, Stan, Beth, just anyone who can pass them on to us all at the Community Council .

Thank you
Linda Matheson
