COMMONWEALTH GAMES BATON RELAY
26th June 2014
Although the weather was wet during the afternoon, it didn't deter hundreds of local people turning out to welcome the baton to Menstrie and the wait was well worthwhile with the opportunity to cheer on all the local baton bearers.
Hopefully everybody who came along enjoyed the hospitality and music that was organised and thanks must go to the caterers and musicians who fed and kept the crowd entertained. The children in particular played a big part and many of them had the opportunity to hold the baton and have their photographs taken as a reminder of the day, with the Glee Club from the Primary School taking part in the evening event at Lornshill Academy.
My thanks must go in particular to Stan Paterson and Moira Wiseman who helped tirelessly with the preparations both before and during the day itself, the help from the Community Payback helpers and the volunteers who stayed behind to do the clearing up. Menstrie should be proud of its community spirit which was evident on the day by the fantastic turnout.
