Tartan Walk, September 2016
A few men from the village, spurred on by the women folk, came up with the idea of organising a sponsored walk; a way of raising much-needed funds for the village.
The Tartan Walk was born.
The walk took place on the 3rd of September starting at 11:00 hrs from the Fox Boy onwards to Sheriffmuir Inn. Upon arrival at 13:20 hrs a light lunch was had, supplied very kindly by SG Pro Cleaning, the group commenced the journey back to Menstrie at 14:20 hrs arriving back home around 16:30 hrs. Although the purpose of the walk was to raise funds which were incredible (just under £ 2,500), we found the whole atmosphere before, during and after the walk great fun. People who did not know each other that well apart from saying "Hello" in the passing were found walking together, chatting, laughing and making new friends, something which every village needs to become a better and friendlier place to live. One of the best things to see were the children so excited, waving tartan flags and laughing, giving us all a great send off. The same happened on our return. Some of the guys actually looked as if they were "Conquering Heros": Won't mention any names.
That is why it would be good to continue with the walk every year and hopefully see more people attending, no matter how much any individual raises it really is "taking part" that counts. Just think of that wee face waving you goodbye and the smile that waits you on your return. A few cold beers at the end also help.
Keep your eyes peeled around the village around the same time for advertising the walk and the ladies will also have a Facebook page running also as they did this year.
Hopefully see you next year!
